1. The Three Stooges

The Three Stooges are responsible for farce and slapstick comedy, so we kind of owe them our respect. But it’s okay to draw the line at that movie the Farrelly brothers made about them. We’re pretty sure the above shot is what everyone did to the person who insisted they see it in theaters.

2. The Ghostbusters

These guys are icons! Their success shows us it’s okay to get kicked out of Columbia University, and encourages us to be obnoxious whenever someone has to make a call.

3. The Three Amigos

The Three Amigos also left their mark on mainstream society, which we know from all the times we’ve heard about college guys going to the E.R. because they tried to mount a horse “that” way.

4. The Group From “Three’s Company”

Jack, Chrissy and Janet wonderfully depicted the chaos that comes when three people live together, and how hard it is for two brunettes to let a blonde’s “blonde moment” slide by without acknowledgement and mockery.

5. The First Wives From “The First Wives Club”

The ladies from “The First Wives Club” all had husbands who left to be with younger women, so they worked together to get revenge. They are responsible for the fact some women get married just so the possibility exists that they can serve their husbands divorce papers while standing in a meat locker.

6. The Plastics From “Mean Girls”

High school cliques existed before “Mean Girls,” but we never challenged their authority because we didn’t want to have dead squirrels stapled to our houses. But once The Plastics came around, we saw that girls are only bitchy because they’re protecting themselves from their own issues — like sexual attraction to their cousins and moms in Juicy Couture tracksuits.

7. These Guys From “The Hangover”

These guys are responsible for modernizing the male trio and bringing it back into comedy. So generally speaking, it seems like marrying a hooker and locking her baby in a closet overnight while you consummate the marriage can have its perks.

8. These Guys From “Horrible Bosses”

Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis and Jason Bateman entered awesome trio territory when they starred in “Horrible Bosses.” And while it was jarring to see a sexually-charged Jennifer Aniston and a comb-overed and fat Colin Farrell, it was most impressive to see each man willing to go to prison if it meant his buds could be happier at work.

9. The Lonely Island

The Lonely Island consists of Kiv Schaffer, Jorma Taccone, and Andy Samberg. They met in high school and now do wonderful things on “SNL,” like provide us with a song we can sing to congratulate ourselves a successful copulation job.

10. Stephen Merchant, Ricky Gervais, Karl Pilkington

Stephen Merchant, Ricky Gervais and Karl Pilkington round out this list because they’re hilarious without getting physical, insulting teenage girls, or dressing in mariachi suits. They just sit around some microphones and ponder hypothetical situations, like how it wouldn’t be a big deal if Columbus discovered America using a GPS. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

1. Casablanca

More than your average romance flick, Casablanca is widely considered to belong in the lexicon of the best movies ever made. Well-known for its rich dialogue and the fiery chemistry between its stars, Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart, the film presents an amazing tale all about the price of true love set against the backdrop of North Africa during World War II.

2. When Harry Met Sally

Love at first sight, or maybe not. First they weren’t friends, then they were, then they weren’t, then they got married. Simple as that. You’ll love it!

3. An Affair To Remember

In this film, playboy Nicky Ferrante (Grant) and night club singer Terry McKay (Kerr) have an affair while on a cruise from Europe to New York. They agree to meet at the top of the Empire State Building in six months, even though they’re both engaged to other people. After an unfortunate accident, Terry is unable to make the date, and the rest of the film traces their unfolding future. Even if the story sounds uninteresting to you, you should consider watching it just to see Grant in his prime.

4. The Notebook

Perhaps the most striking romance film in recent memory, The Notebook is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks. Memorable for its striking visuals and the moving performances of the stars, Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, the movie’s story is set in the early 1940s and tells a classic tale of two young lovers who must struggle to be together against the odds.

5. The English Patient

The winner of no fewer than nine Academy Awards, this movie stars Ralph Fiennes as an unknown soldier during World War II and Juliette Binoche as the nurse who comes to love him. The film is divided between exploring the man’s past, which is a convoluted story of romance and betrayal, and his present of love and redemption.

6. An Officer and a Gentleman

This romantic movie starring Debra Winger and Richard Gere explores the true ups and downs of any relation. It is about an individual who realizes his inner strength after he enters an office. He woos a young factory worker but realizes it only later. The movie ends with his happy realization and their union.

7. Chocolat

Chocolate. Juliette Binoche. Johnny Depp. Enough said. Ok, I’ll elaborate. It’s lent and Binoche’s character brings chocolate to town. She tempts the locals with her chocolate creations and while in the small French town meets Depp, a gypsy.

8. Across The Universe

This musical is loosely tied around the stories taken from more than 30 Beatles songs. The plot revolves around Jude (named after the character from Hey Jude) and Lucy (Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds) who move to New York City to pursue their artistic dreams.

9. A Walk To Remember

In this Nicholas Spark novel-turned-movie Mandy Moore plays a girl with leukemia whose life drastically changes when she meets a boy who is her exact opposite, and warns him not to fall in love with her.

10. Dirty Dancing

Dirty Dancing is another romantic classic featuring a great performance by the much-missed Patrick Swayze, starring across from Jennifer Grey in this beloved coming-of-age drama. It tells the story of a young woman who escapes her controlling father, and ultimately finds herself, with the help of a sizzling dance instructor who isn’t afraid to break the rules.

1. “South Park” guys

The “South Park” guys show up in drag (2000): Trey Parker and Matt Stone arrived to support the feature film version of their animated series, “South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut,” which earned Parker and Marc Shaiman an original-song nomination for the jaunty “Blame Canada.” But they couldn’t just wear tuxes like everyone else. Since they’ve made a career out of skewering celebrities, Stone donned a replica of the pink gown Gwyneth Paltrow wore a year earlier when she won best actress for “Shakespeare in Love,” while Parker wore a knock-off of the plunging green Versace number Jennifer Lopez famously filled out at the Grammys. So much chest hair … and so hilarious.

2. And suddenly a naked guy

The streaker (1974): Just as host David Niven was about to introduce Elizabeth Taylor, a naked man came running across the stage behind him, flashing a peace sign. (It was the ’70s.) The whole place naturally went wild with laughter, but Niven, being the epitome of British class and cool, didn’t miss a beat. He deadpanned: “Well, ladies and gentlemen, that was almost bound to happen. But isn’t it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?”

3. Marlon Brando

Marlon Brando sends Sacheen Littlefeather on stage (1973): Brando won best actor for his iconic portrayal of Don Corleone in “The Godfather.” But he refused to accept the award, and instead sent a woman who said she was an Apache named Sacheen Littlefeather to speak on his behalf. Brando was protesting what he believed to be stereotypical treatment of Native Americans in the film industry. Littlefeather’s speech drew a mixture of applause and boos, as well as questions about whether she was truly a Native American herself.

4. Rob Low

Rob Lowe’s duet with Snow White (1989): Allan Carr injected an element of high camp when he took over as producer of the Academy Awards. He was, after all, the man behind such splashy movie musicals as “Grease” and “Can’t Stop the Music,” and he won a Tony for the Broadway hit “La Cage aux Folles.” But his Oscar ceremony is considered one of the biggest flops in the show’s history. It included a 20-minute opening dance number with a squeaky-voiced Snow White-lookalike singing “Proud Mary” with Lowe, who was just getting over a lewd videotape scandal. Just try and watch it without cringing.

5. Bjork

Bjork’s swan dress (2001): Being notoriously daring and different as she is, Bjork dazzled and bedeviled everyone when she showed up at the planet’s most-watched red carpet in a white, fluffy gown with a swan’s head draped around her neck. (The Icelandic singer and actress was nominated for best original song for “I’ve Seen It All” from Lars von Trier’s “Dancer in the Dark.”) It is arguably the most famous outfit ever worn to the Oscars. It inspired many a Halloween costume.

6. Jack Palance

Jack Palance’s one-armed push-ups (1992): Palance already had been nominated for an Oscar twice before, both for best supporting actor, for 1952′s “Sudden Fear” and 1953′s “Shane.” Four decades later, when he finally won the award for the comedy “City Slickers,” he proved he was just as virile as ever at 72. In the middle of a raunchy acceptance speech, in which he was explaining how reluctant producers can be to cast older actors, Palance stepped away from the podium, dropped to the stage and did a series of one-armed push-ups. Who wouldn’t hire him?

7. Roberto Benigni

Roberto Benigni’s seat climbing (1999): Speaking of acrobatics, there’s Benigni. Ever the clown, the Italian actor and director couldn’t just walk up on stage and give humble, teary-eyed thanks when his “Life Is Beautiful” won the Oscar for best foreign-language film. Instead, he leaped from one seat back to another, whipping the audience into a frenzy, before hopping up the steps and giving presenter Sophia Loren a long, tight bear hug. (“Life Is Beautiful” also earned a best-actor Oscar for Benigni and one for its original score.)

8. Robert Redford

“Ordinary People” beats “Raging Bull” for best picture (1981): Not so much a wacky moment but a befuddling one. How could the Academy get this one so wrong? In retrospect, Martin Scorsese’s “Raging Bull” emerges as a small masterpiece, intimately powerful in black and white, gorgeous — even its brutal violence. “Ordinary People,” Robert Redford’s directing debut, feels like a respectable and well-made if austere family drama. But that’s not as bad as …

9. Kevin Costner

“Dances With Wolves” beats “Goodfellas” for best picture (1991): Ten years later, the Academy gets it wrong again, and Scorsese is on the losing end again. Sure, Kevin Costner’s “Dances With Wolves” is a sweeping epic, visually impressive in its enormity, but looking back it feels condescending and a little corny. “Goodfellas,” meanwhile, is an example of Scorsese’s virtuoso filmmaking at its finest — funny, brash, evocative and always riveting. Scorsese eventually got his due, though, with Oscars for best picture and director for 2006′s “The Departed.”

10. Sally Field

You like Sally Field (1985): “Places in the Heart” earned Field her second best-actress Oscar — the first came for 1979′s “Norma Rae” — but this one meant more to her, she said in her acceptance speech as she clutched the golden statue, giddy and beaming. This time, she said she finally felt the respect of her peers: “I can’t deny the fact that you like me. Right now, you like me!” It’s a line that would be endlessly parodied — and misquoted.
