THE FLEECE INN
This 200 year-old public house situated in North Cotes, close to Grimsby, is haunted by a gentleman wearing a black wide-brimmed hat and a long coat. He has been spotted by many publicans and clients over the years, who seem to agree that the figure is not at all threatening.
He always appears underneath the main supporting beam of the house and disappears through the staircase. Bryan Cowley, the present publican, said that the ghost has appeared to him at closing time. He has a theory that the man was protesting at the shutting of the bar!

POLESDEN LACEY
This eighteenth century house can be found in Surrey and has two unusual ghosts – a brown hooded figure and a whirlwind.
In one of the house’s great gardens there is a small wooden bridge and it is here that a ghostly figure has been seen. It is dressed in long brown robes and its hood is pulled so low down over its face that no part of it can be seen.
In another part of the gardens, along the Nun’s Walk, a strange whistling sound has been heard. People who have witnessed the strange noise say it resembles the sound of a whirlwind and that as soon as they became aware of the noise it stopped.

CLAYDON HOUSE
The house is said to be haunted by the ghost of Sir Edmund Verney, who was Charles It’s standard bearer at the Battle of Redhill in 1642. He was captured during the battle by the Claydon HouseRoundheads who first cut off his hand and then murdered him. His body was lost and only his hand was found and sent back to Claydon House for burial. Sir Edmund is thought to be searching the house to this very day for his severed hand.

Other ghosts have been seen at Claydon House, one of which is believed to be the figure of Florence Nightingale. Another ghost appears in the Rose Room of Claydon house. This ghost is a beautiful woman dressed in gray, who has been seen walking through a wall. It is believed that this wall at one time was part of a secret room.

HAM HOUSE
Ham House, situated between Twickenham and Richmond in Surrey, is a Jacobean residence built by Sir Thomas Vavasour in 1610. Charles II’s minister, the Duke of Lauderdale, lived there for many years.

There are several ghosts that haunt this house, including the spirit of the evil Duchess of Ham HouseLauderdale. In her old age, the Duchess took to wandering the house at night carrying her silver-headed cane. A ghostly tapping sound coming from the corridors of the house has been heard on numerous occasions.

A young girl that was staying at the house was awakened one night by an old woman scratching and clawing at the fireplace set in the wall of her room. The sight of the woman terrified the girl, as she had an evil expression on her face. The fireplace was later examined, and a hollow space within it was found containing papers stating that the Countess of Dysart had murdered her first husband in order to marry the Duke of Lauderdale. She succeeded in her scheme, and became the Duchess. It is believed that her ghost was searching for the papers to conceal her crimes.

A ghost of a King Charles spaniel is often seen in the grounds of Ham House in broad daylight. This lively spirit is very popular with visitors.

TREASURER’S HOUSE
Treasurer’s House is situated in York and is thought to be haunted by a variety of ghosts.

A member of the Asilabie family who once owned the house is said to have haunted the rooms for more than 300 years. Sir George Aislabie was killed in a duel over the honor of one of his guests and has haunted the place ever since.

The most remarkable ghostly sighting, however, occurred in the 1950s when a plumber was installing pipes in the cellar. He heard the sound of a trumpet being blown, and as the noise drew nearer and nearer, a huge horse came through the wall carrying a soldier in Roman costume, followed by an entire army on foot.

Excavations in the city have found that the road level in Roman times was much lower than it is now, which is probably why the soldiers were only visible from their thighs upwards.

WOLFETON HOUSE
This beautiful manor house is situated in Dorset and for many years was the home of the Trenchard family.

It is reputedly haunted by the wife of Sir Thomas Trenchard, who was a famous seventeenth century judge. Sir Thomas actually saw the ghost of his wife while she was still alive, with blood pouring from a wound in her throat. A few hours later, his wife killed herself by cutting her throat.

The ghost of a priest also haunts the House and is believed to be that of an Irish Catholic priest called Cornelius. He was hanged, drawn and quartered at nearby Dorchester and now reputedly haunts the staircase in the gatehouse at Wolfeton Hall. His footsteps can be heard on the stairs leading to the room where he used to stay.

The third ghost at Wolfeton is thought to be the ghost of Sir Thomas himself. He can be seen driving a phantom coach and four horses up the main staircase of the House!

CHARLTON HOUSE

Charlton House is one of the few remaining Jacobean houses in London and is reputedly haunted by the amorous Sir William Longhorne.

Despite his two marriages and numerous attempts to produce an heir, Sir William died without ever managing to become a father. However, it seems that he has carried his obsession of fatherhood to the grave, for on a number of occasions he is thought to have tried to enter the bedrooms of female guests who take his fancy!

The house is haunted by a servant girl who carries a young baby in her arms. There is also a mysterious chill that surrounds a spot on one of the landings.

LOSELEY HOUSE
This beautiful house situated just outside Guildford in Surrey has been the home of the More-Molyneaux family since the sixteenth century. In the past its guests have included Queen Elizabeth I, King James I, Queen Anne and Queen Mary. It is also home to several ghosts.

The ghost of a smiling lady dressed in Victorian clothes has been seen outside one of the bathrooms in the house. The present owner who saw the woman later found a portrait of the ghost in the attic. She is thought to have once lived there herself.

Another ghost of a lady has been seen but this time she is dressed in brown and does not appear to be nearly as friendly. She has been seen standing at the bottom of the stairs, and when she appears, witnesses usually feel a coldness surround them.

As the story goes, about 400 years ago the ‘Brown Lady’ murdered her step-son by chopping off one his legs so that her own son could inherit her husband’s fortune. When her husband found out what she had done he locked her into a room and kept her there for the rest of her life. Every year, on a particular night, horrific screams are reputedly heard coming from the room where she was kept prisoner.

Another ghostly lady has been seen by one of the owner’s daughters. This time the ghost was that of a little old lady dressed in gray. She appeared only to the young girls in their playroom, where she would sit and smile at them, as if she was taking care of them. As the girls grew up, they realized there was something ‘odd’ about their friend and told their parents. The family eventually became very nervous about the ghost and left the house.

The house is also thought to be haunted by the ghost of a man who can be seen in fancy dress walking through the Long Galle

THE TEMPLE

The Temple, situated on the banks of the River Thames, was once the home of the English Knights Templar, who were based at the Inns Of Court until 1312. The Temple was then passed on and parts of it were leased to lawyers. It is a lawyer that is now thought to haunt the courtyards and passages of this historic place.

Sir Henry Hawkins, or ‘Hanging Hawkins’ as he came to be known as, was a nineteenth century judge who became famous, not because he was unnecessarily harsh, but because he dealt with so many murder trials that in turn led to hangings.

The figure that hurries across the courtyard, dressed in wig and gown and carrying a bundle of papers under his arm, is thought to be the ghost of Hawkins. His figure has been seen on many occasions particularly around midnight and during the early hours of the morning.

What forced her to move from her “home” was osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis. She moved with her daughter in new York. She is a former pilot, who began her carrier at 50, including a stint at the White House.

The death of her husband, Glenn, from cancer gave her no pause in returning to work in 2001, which landed her at the Towne Place Suites.

Extended hotel stays were not unusual, Towne Place Suites general manager Carla Berberich said.

“For less than the price of many apartment rentals in the Washington metro area (roughly $US1500-$US1700 ($1400-$1600) a month) Bricker’s room was supplied with wi-fi, which fuelled her hours of daily online research and reading a day, and the added benefit of daily room cleaning, and round-the-clock security. Though she says she still makes her bed each day, though not nearly as well,” CNN said.

“Bricker has become a pillar of the transient, makeshift community. She’s made friends of staff and short-term neighbours alike. Next door, her new Kuwaiti friend brings traditional meals of spiced stew for them to share.

“It was this family of hotel staff who came to her aid when, last year, a late-night fall landed her in the hospital with a broken hip.
“General manager Bobby Bellinger was the first person Bricker saw when she awoke in her hospital bed.”

There is no need in explaining what Facebook is. If someone doesn’t know what is it, than: it is a social network, enables people to communicate, exchange thoughts and keep in contact no mater where they are, etc, etc. As much as this sounds great, Facebook is also a mean machine too! Network can get you fired, too. Some people found out on harder way. Facebook cost them jobs!! Your boss can easily see everything you are doing. It can be said that boss got you “on a short leash“. Now everything is a open book. And pretty soon you could hear the words: “You Are Fired!” (more about senseless sacking on www.stella’smagazine.com) Her is how some people got fired.

Unfortunate case happened in Great Britain. One secretary, we will not name her, updated her status on Facebook, saying “Man, it is so boring at work, today!”. Soon she didn’t have where to feel bored. Her boss read this and found it offensive. There was no buts or sorry, she didn’t have opportunity to come back to her (boring) job.
One teacher from USA also had a misfortune, for her, not boss, student’s parents to read her Facebook status. She was complaining with students and their studding. Parents didn’t found necessary to speak with their children, and see why they are not learning, but attacked the poor woman. And pretty soon the teacher was out!
One girl, working in the Switzerland’s Insurance Company, got ill and was not at her job, but her boss found out that she was updating her Facebook status, and he thought that she is not ill enough if she can be on Facebook.
So you should be careful with what you are doing on the web, because you never know who is reading. I feel sorry for this people and their misfortune, but next time they will be more careful. You may say that private stuff should remain private, but if you are posting it on the web, how do you thing this will remain a secret? You must be aware that all what you are saying will not be only seen by your friends, but many, many others.
