Garden of Cosmic Speculations

This amazing peace of work called “Garden of Cosmic Speculations“. This is garden was made by famous landscape architect Charles Jencks and his wife Maggie Keswick. It all began as his wife’s idea to dray a mire on their estate in Scotland, and that gave space to Charles Jencks to play around and create. This project occupied life of Mr. Jencks for last 20 years. he tryed with this “Garden of Cosmic Speculations” to answer some questions, such as: “What are atoms made of and how should we conceive of them? How does DNA make up a living organism and why is it essential to celebrate it in a garden?” (amazon.com)

The most impressive part of this garden is the “universal slap”, water fountain and stairs which are getting down from the top of small hill, where the house is, to the garden. Once a year visitors have the privilege of seeing this garden, after all this a private estate and a private garden. It is only the good will and generosity of the owners to share it with the rest of the world. Anyways, all the money collected that day goes to the Foundation for Cancer. Jencks wife had cancer and she died, and this is one way of trying to help people with cancer.

Charles Jencks is working on a landscape project near CERN, European Laboratory for Particle Physics, which is settled near Geneva. The garden is the first sight, which the visitors of this laboratory, will be able to see. That garden is designed to enable people one unique experience. The main idea is, for the visitors, to feel an experience the Particle Physics.

There’s Nothing A Shark Won’t Do For Love

Female of a white shark crossed the Indian Ocean twice: from South Africa to Australia and back. This journey of 12,000 kilometers was recorded as a documentary in scientific purposes. Scientist believed that sharks are not able to cross the distances and make changes when it comes to their habitat. Specially the females.

Members of American Environment Society, gave shark the name Nicol. They named her after Australian actress Nicol Kidman. She is known as great fan of these animals. The journey of the shark was able to track, thanks to the sensor attached to the shark’s spine, which was tracked by satellite.

It was interesting to find out why would a white shark travel the distance in order to get to Australia, and than came back home. What they found out was that this shark travel all that way to get some love in order to reproduce.

Anyways, it seems like there are more “available” mails of white shark along the Australian cost (it looks like these guys are up for surfing), that there are on the in the South part of the sea on the African continent. When Nicol has finally met her “Mr. Right” she returned home.

This Is How You Smell

Humans can distinguish more than 10, 000 different smells. How does it work and how some smell we feel and other not? For example, you all know the difference between smell of coffee and bread, and how do you know it, and how does those two things smell completely different? On the other hand you can not smell the sense of steel, for example. And why?
“It is all about the top of your nasal passages behind your nose, there is a patch of special neurons about the size of a postage stamp. These neurons are unique in that they are out in the open where they can come into contact with the air. They have hair-like projections called cilia that increase their surface area. An odor molecule binds to these cilia to trigger the neuron and cause you to perceive a smell. Smell is a very direct sense. In order for you to smell something, molecules from that thing have to make it to your nose. Everything you smell, therefore, is giving off molecules — whether it is bread in the bakery, onions, perfume, a piece of fruit or whatever. Those molecules are generally light, volatile (easy to evaporate) chemicals that float through the air into your nose. A piece of steel has no smell because nothing evaporates from it — steel is a non-volatile solid.” (source:Discovery Fit and Health)

Inhabitants Near Baikonur

Some photographers came at Baikonur, the spaceport, and the shuttle launch was delayed for a few hours, the photographers needed to loose some time an they start to take some photos of animals nearby. Evolution of an Adorable Red Cat

Oh, kittys. They are so endearing. Little red kittys are especially cute. At birth they are ever so cute with their little red noses. Then they get a little older and are ever so playful. Finally, they become fully grown and are somewhat less playful and more like a large fluff of redness. What would the world do without red cats?

Predators and Their Prey

Talking about survival of the fittest! In the animal kingdom, size really does matter in order to survive! While successful predation results in a gain of energy, hunting invariably involves energetic costs as well. When hunger is not an issue, most predators will generally not seek to attack prey since the costs outweight the benefits.

Cute Capybara Caplin Rous

The Capybara is the largest living rodent in the world. Its closest relatives are chinchillas and guinea pigs. Its common name means “master of the grasses” in the Guarani language while its scientific name, hydrochaeris, is Greek for “water hog”. Adult capybaras may grow to 130 centimetres (4.3 ft) in length, and weigh up to 65 kg (140 lb). The top recorded weight is 105.4 kg (232 lbs). And this one named Caplin Rous (pronounced rose) is quite famous in the Internet.
