Sculptures Of Pain From 18th Century

This odd sculptures are creation of German-Austrian artist from 18th century, called Franz Xaver Messerschmidt (1736-1783). Messerschmidt was expelled from the Viennese Academy of Fine Arts because he was suffering from Crohn’s Disease in 1774.
In 1781 he created this sculptures using his own face in pain expressions as a template.
He died soon after that from complication of Crohn’s disease.
