Rare Photos of Brigitte Bardot

Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot (born 1934) is a French former fashion model, actress and singer, and animal rights activist. She was one of the best-known sex-symbols of the 1960s. In her early life, Bardot was an aspiring ballet dancer. She started her acting career in 1952 and, after appearing in 16 films, became world-famous due to her role in her then-husband Roger Vadim’s controversial film And God Created Woman. She starred in Jean-Luc Godard’s 1963 cult film, Contempt. She was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Actress for her role in Louis Malle’s 1965 film, Viva Maria!. Bardot caught the attention of French intellectuals. She was the subject of Simone de Beauvoir’s 1959 essay, The Lolita Syndrome, which described Bardot as a “locomotive of women’s history” and built upon existentialist themes to declare her the first and most liberated woman of post-war France.

Twins Days Festival in Twinsburg

Everyone was seeing double in Twinsburg, Ohio. Twinsburg holds a yearly festival just for pairs of twins called Twins Days. More than just twins are welcome. This festival started in 1976 with only 36 sets of twins but has grown to be the world’s largest annual gathering of twins with approximately 3,000 sets attending each year. The weekend of events attracts twins, multiples and their families from all over the world, many returning year after year. Enjoy :)

Diana Nyad Tried to Swim From Cuba to Florida

Endurance swimmer and record-holder Diana Nyad (61) arrived in Florida Tuesday morning, but not in the manner she hoped. She had attempted to become the first person to swim between Cuba and Florida without a shark cage, but ocean swells, shoulder pain and asthma forced her to give up the swim. Nyad was vomiting when she was brought aboard a boat at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday — 29 hours after she jumped into the water Sunday.
